Driving allows you to stop along the way - there are vineyards, thermal pools & spas, walks, seals, surf beaches
so make sure you plan out your trip to make the most of what NZ has to offer on your way
to Kaikoura and allow plenty of time as it does seem to get away on you easily!
So you can plan your trip these road driving times are approximate:

Train:
Kaikoura has a train station that is next to Whale Watch so the station is called the Whale Way Station.
The Coastal Pacific train goes through Kaikoura twice a day throughout summer –
morning is north from Christchurch to Picton and in the afternoon it heads back down south from Picton to Christchurch.
It is a very scenic journey and once you hit the coast you are so close to the water that the
open carriages can get to feel the sea water spray!

The Inter City bus service operates through Kaikoura twice daily morning & afternoon and all you
need do is look out the window and be amazed with the surrounds whilst someone else drives you!
If you are travelling around the South Island via bus or train we can easily collect you from the
Whale Way Station or Bus Stop in town and bring you back to your accommodation after 3pm.
If you arrive in the morning we can organise to meet and collect your luggage so you can enjoy your
time in town without worrying about dragging or carrying it around with you.
We would then drop you back into town by 9.30 to catch the bus or train so you can continue on
your South Island journey.
